Very often, considering our work, we have heard various opinions about people with leadership roles. They were called in different ways: bosses, leaders, managers, "şefi” (in Romanian) etc.
In time, we have formed a very strong opinion about the classical dichotomy leader – manager. In business schools there is a real frenzy to underline the differences between the two concepts. We believe that definitions are only academic and of little use in the real life. Practically, we have never seen a person referring to his superior as being or . Most people say that they are either good or bad bosses, that they have some qualities, and lack others. This is why we believe there should be only one concept to describe a leader (on a continuum from highly competent to highly incompetent).
